01 Project Background

Project Background

Around 2012, when John White began developing Spooky2 software, one of the first practical challenges was the lack of a unified frequency database.

A considerable amount of frequency information already existed, but it was scattered across websites, books, historical frequency lists, and records kept by individual researchers.

John began collecting frequencies and gradually organizing them into Spooky2 software. The goal was to create a meaningful collection that users could search, examine, update, and continually improve.

02 Fundamentals

Frequency Database in One Minute

Frequency collection involves gathering existing frequency information from different systems and organizing it into a searchable database.

Spooky2 brings different frequency sources together in one software system, allowing users to search programs and identify their source categories.

03 Research Process

John’s Core Work

1

Bringing Together Frequencies from Different Sources

John collected existing frequencies from different sources and brought them into the Spooky2 database system.

Sources included CAFL, RIFE, HC, KHZ, ETDFL, and other collections developed by different researchers and communities.

2

Writing Descriptions for Frequency Entries

After collecting frequency numbers, John and his team wrote descriptions for each frequency entry, giving users more context than a number or name alone.

3

Helping Users Identify Frequency Sources

Spooky2 uses separate names to identify different frequency sources. Users can explore all sub-databases or select specific sources.

4

Making the Database Searchable and Usable

Users can search relevant programs in one software system, identify source categories, and access corresponding programs.

5

Continuing to Expand as New Material Becomes Available

  • Adding new programs.
  • Improving program names and descriptions.
  • Combining duplicate entries.
  • Removing unreliable content.
  • Updating entries based on feedback.
04 Project Outcomes

Project Outcomes

As of October 13, 2026, the database contained 13,266 programs that John collected from different sources. The names and program counts for those sources can also be viewed in Spooky2 software.
